The Department of State Services (DSS) says its operatives have dismantled a suspected arms trafficking network in Gombe State, arresting two alleged couriers and recovering two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) warheads, an RPG launcher and other weapons.

In a statement, the service identified the suspects as Muhammed Alhaji Mohammed, 55, and Sani Gesha, 47. They were intercepted at Mararaban Tula in Kaltungo Local Government Area while travelling in a grey Toyota Corolla with registration number Taraba JAL475YQ.

Security sources disclosed that the operation followed three weeks of covert surveillance targeting a suspected arms supply network operating across Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa states. The suspects reportedly confessed during preliminary interrogation that the weapons were to be delivered to a contact in Kukawa Village, Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State.

In a separate operation, DSS operatives rescued a six-year-old boy, Mohammed Jabir, who was allegedly lured and kidnapped under the pretext of being taught how to ride a motorcycle.

The suspect in the abduction case, identified as Salisu Hussain, has been taken into custody, while the child has been reunited with his parents.

The DSS said all suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
