The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays for the celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
The declaration was disclosed on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through an official statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
The statement noted that the decision highlights the government’s acknowledgement of the religious and cultural importance of the Islamic celebration to Muslims in Nigeria and across the globe.
Tunji-Ojo extended his greetings to Muslim faithful at home and abroad, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a period that reflects the virtues of sacrifice, devotion, kindness and obedience to God.
He encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of the festive season to offer prayers for the country’s unity, safety and economic growth.
“The Federal Government calls on all citizens to use the occasion for reflection and prayers for divine direction as the nation continues to strive for peace, security and national development,” the statement stated.
The minister also urged Nigerians to promote harmony, tolerance and togetherness throughout the celebration.
He further wished Muslims nationwide a joyful, safe and memorable Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
