The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two men suspected of involvement in armed robbery, following the seizure of a pump-action firearm, a live round of ammunition, and other suspicious items during a security check at the Second Niger Bridge.

This was made known in a statement released on Friday, May 29, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

According to the statement, officers attached to the Department of Operations (DOPS) Buffalo Squad carried out an intelligence-driven stop-and-search exercise on May 27, 2026, during which they intercepted a blue Hijet Cargo bus without registration plates travelling from Anambra State into Delta State.

Police authorities stated that the individuals inside the vehicle allegedly tried to hinder the inspection and threatened to film the officers in an attempt to stop them from performing their responsibilities.

Despite the resistance, the operatives conducted a detailed inspection of the vehicle and discovered a pump-action rifle containing a live shell, along with two knives.

“The operation resulted in the seizure of one pump-action firearm loaded with a live cartridge and two daggers,” the statement added.

The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Ugo Chukwu Kendirim and 27-year-old Odo Jude, were apprehended on the spot and placed in detention.

The Command noted that initial inquiries are ongoing to ascertain how the suspects came into possession of the weapons and whether they are connected to any unlawful activities.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the officers for their alertness and professional conduct throughout the exercise.

He also reiterated the Command’s dedication to intelligence-based policing, active crime-fighting strategies, and ensuring that criminal groups have no safe haven within the state.
