ICPC Recovers ₦446bn, Restrains ₦142bn in Forfeiture Within One Month — NOA DG

The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has disclosed that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission recovered over N446 billion and restrained over N142 billion in forfeiture and N30 billion Naira cash in one month.

Issa-Onilu, who made this disclosure during the Monthly National Joint Security Briefing in Abuja on Monday, said the commission did remarkably well in September, “recovered N446 million and secured restraining orders on an additional N173 million pending forfeiture.”
”This is a sign of strength to further eliminate corruption in Nigeria. During the period under review, the ICPC received 19 petitions through in-person and digital channels available to the public.
“Out of a total of 33 cases assigned for investigation, nine cases were successfully investigated with three convictions secured.
“Relevant updates on these cases have been communicated to the appropriate parties,” he said.
While disclosing that he ICPC conducted 77 sensitisation workshops and conferences, reaching 41,922 individuals, including State Attorneys-General, the NOA boss added that the commission also conducted a systems study/corruption risk assessment and inaugurated eight Anti-Corruption Transparency Units in some MDAs to strengthen institutional accountability.

“The ICPC’s social media engagement increased to 1,650 hits.
“The Commission aired four episodes of its weekly television programme, “Transparency Files,” in English and 27 episodes of its WAZOBIA/outreaches in selected indigenous languages.
“Furthermore, it successfully issued 12 News Releases, which received 121 widespread mentions by media outlets.
“These efforts reflect ICPC’s sustained commitment to a transparent, accountable and corruption-free Nigeria,” Issa-Onilu said.
